Common questions about our first aid courses.
How does the blended format work?
You book and pay through the calendar below. We register you in the RLSS Course Management System and apply the credit — at that point RLSS automatically emails you an invitation to access the online learning through your RLSS account. You complete the online theory at your own pace (FAW: ~6 hours, EFAW: ~2 hours), then attend the face-to-face practical session at Poolside Manor on your booked date. Note: RLSS may hold the e-learning until your course date is within the permitted timeframe (4 weeks before, for EFAW blended), so very early bookings may see online content release closer to the practical date. We monitor progress in the RLSS system and follow up if needed.
Which course does my workplace need — FAW or EFAW?
It depends on your workplace first aid needs assessment under the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981. Lower-risk environments (offices, shops, small teams) typically only need EFAW-trained appointed first aiders. Higher-risk environments (factories, construction, large workforces) usually require FAW. If you're unsure, get in touch and we'll talk through it.
How long is the certificate valid?
Both FAW and EFAW certificates are valid for 3 years from the date of completion. HSE recommends annual refresher training to maintain skills, though this isn't a legal requirement.
Is the EFAW course suitable for EYFS settings?
Yes. EFAW is suitable for nursery managers, administrators, and supporting staff in EYFS settings. Note that EYFS statutory framework requires at least one staff member with a current full Paediatric First Aid (PFA) certificate on premises and on outings — EFAW does not replace PFA in those roles. Get in touch if you need PFA-specific training and we'll let you know when our paediatric courses launch.
Do you offer onsite training at our premises?
Yes — for groups of 6 or more delegates, we can deliver training at your premises across Greater London, subject to a suitable training space being available. Get a group quote for onsite pricing.
What does the course price include?
Course fee includes the RLSS UK e-learning portal access, all in-person training materials, course manual, equipment use (manikins, AED trainers, first aid kits), assessment, and certification issued directly by RLSS UK. Refreshments are provided. There are no hidden extras.
Can I pay by invoice or purchase order?
Yes. For company bookings we accept invoice payment with 30-day terms. Submit a booking through the calendar and select the invoice option, or contact us to arrange a PO and group rate before booking.
What's your cancellation policy?
Full refund or free transfer if you cancel more than 14 days before the course start date. 50% refund or free transfer between 7 and 14 days. No refund within 7 days, though we'll always try to find a workable solution if you have a genuine emergency. Substitutions (sending a colleague in your place) are free at any time.
What should I bring on the day?
Confirmation that you've completed the online theory module, comfortable clothing suitable for floor-based practical work, lunch (or use our nearby cafes), and a pen. Everything else is provided.
10% of every booking goes to The Magpie Project (Newham) and London Air Ambulance. Training one team funds emergency response for another.
